Edipower’s primary objective is to consolidate and develop its industrial presence in Italy, with the aim of maintaining and strengthening its position as one of the country’s leading energy operators.
A prerequisite for the achievement of this objective is the development of an industrial plan that enables the Company’s facilities to attain an environmental performance that is consistent with the best available technologies and compliant with current Italian and European regulatory requirements, while adopting technological configurations that can deliver high energy efficiency and provide a competitive advantage in the energy market.
The industrial plan calls for significant investments in all of Edipower’s generating facilities.
An overview of the planned investment projects is provided below:
- Conversion of thermoelectric power plants fired with fuel oil into combined-cycle facilities fueled with natural gas (repowering):
- about 4,000 MW already completed (Sermide, Chivasso and Piacenza power plants and first phase of the repowering of the Turbigo power plant)
- 452 MW under development (second phase of the repowering of the Turbigo power plant)
- Environmental upgrade of existing facilities fired with fuel oil or coal:
- 960 MW – installation of “DeNOx” and “DeSOx” denitrification and desulfurization systems (San Filippo del Mela, Brindisi)
- 640 MW – new coal handling logistics, including construction of a covered coal bunker (Brindisi)
- Renewable energy sources:
- Modernization or existing hydroelectric power plants to increase production capacity and generate green certificates
- 225 MW completed (Mese and Tusciano power plants)
- 480 MW in progress (Mese, Udine and Tusciano power plants)
- Construction of photovoltaic facilities at the Brindisi and San Filippo del Mela power plants
- Testing of an innovative photovoltaic technology at the Chivasso power plant
- Extraordinary maintenance programs to increase the reliability of generating facilities
