WHO WE ARE

Today Edipower ranks among the largest Italian generation companies, with a 7% share of national demand and more than 7,600 MW of powerplants in operation, of which 750 MW from renewable (hydroelectric and photovoltaic) sources and about 24 billion kilowatt produced during 2008.

Edipower shareholders are Edison, A2A, , Iride and the Swiss company Alpiq.

In March 2002 Edipower was the successful bidder of Eurogen, the largest Generation Company which  Enel decided to sell in order to implement the Italian
legislation concerning liberalization of the electric market (for more information: Info Energia).
With the merger deed of Eurogen in Edipower, which took effect from 1 December 2002, Eurogen left the scene leaving the way to Edipower SpA.

Number of Employees (at 31/12/2008): 1.166

The  Edipower strengths
The technological mix and the locations of the plants make it possible to provide an offer capable of meeting the different energy needs of the national territory.

Edipower’s real strength is found in the diversification of the sources of energy procurement: gas (whose use is constantly growing) but also oil, coal and naturally water. This diversification represents a guarantee of high efficiency, flexibility and safety of the productive system.

Some of the present thermoelectric units will be transformed into combined cycle gas turbine units with benefits for the energy efficiency and environmental impact.
Finally, the hydroelectric plants, with their “green” and renewable energy, represent approximately 11% of the installed power (750 MW), with a total damming capacity of approximately 142 million cubic metres.
